5 Tips for Using a Planner Effectively
Tip #1: Select One Planner
Select ONE planner that is right for you. It can become difficult and overwhelming to keep up with multiple planners. Always keep this planner with you.
Tip #2: Use All Sections of Your Planner
Monthly view:
Write down items and tasks that do not change i.e. class time, recurring meetings
Weekly view:
Plan and schedule for your more general tasks i.e. exams and assignment deadlines
Daily view:
List your specific tasks in order of priority that you want to accomplish for that
day i.e. Create outline for English Paper
Tip #3: Get Into a Routine
Try getting into a regular routine and sticking to it. Sit down on Sunday evenings (or a day that is best for you!) and plan out your week. You can also plan each day the night before to prepare for the upcoming tasks you have!
Tip #4: Remember it's Not Your Phone
Your planner does not have push notifications like your phone. It'simportant to check your planner at the start and end of each day so you can anticipate what is coming up. When you have important dates you must remember, set a reminder in your phone.
Tip #5: Keep Your Planner Balanced
It's easy to fill up your planner with class time, assignment deadlines, and study sessions. However, your planner should be a balance of all the roles you play in your life. It's important to make time each day to do something you enjoy!
Bonus Tip
Color coding your planner makes important information stand out and easy to remember.
