The Rise Gallery
The Center for the Arts, 13 State Street, Schenectady
In Spring 2024, SUNY Schenectady expanded its footprint in downtown Schenectady with a bold, new space for art programming that is responsive to the community. What was once the basketball court on the first floor of the former YMCA Building, located at 13 State Street across from campus, has been transformed into the SUNY Schenectady Center for the Arts, where students take a variety of visual art courses in a spacious classroom filled with natural light. Just a few feet away is The Rise Gallery, open to the public during the fall and spring semesters, featuring the work of local artists, art faculty, alumni, and students.
About the Rise Gallery Director and Curator
Whether it's engaging students in his studio art courses to explore such subjects as color theory and textures, or bringing people together for local art exhibits through Capital Region-based Black Dimensions in Art, Inc., Stephen J. Tyson Sr., longtime Fine Arts Faculty Member in the Division of Liberal Arts and Art Gallery Director/Curator, never underestimates the power of art and community.
