Beverage Management Concentration
About the concentration:
This concentration, within the Hotel and Restaurant Management (A.A.S.), prepares students for direct employment in the industry with a variety of courses including those in the fundamentals of beer and brewing; managing beverage operations; spirits, distillation and mixology; beverage sales and merchandising; and inventory control/ warehouse management. A hands-on internship rounds out the curriculum.
"Beverage sales account for a majority of revenue in hospitality operations and therefore need specific management. Product knowledge, trends, ordering, inventory control, operations, sales and marketing are vital to effective management of this revenue center. Whether production, wholesale or retail environ, SUNY Schenectady’s Beverage Management degree is providing valuable training and the practical application of topics that prepare students to succeed in any operations involving the sale of beverages."
Jay Larkin, Associate Professor
Jay Larkin holds an A.A.S. in Hotel and Restaurant Management from SUNY Schenectady and a B.S. in Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional, and Tourism Management from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. He is a HCI TIPS Certified Instructor and the lead instructor for the Craft Beer Brewing programs.
